First Day of School pushed to Monday, Aug. 12
effingham

Special to the Herald

The after-effects of TS Debby have postponed the First Day of School for Effingham County students.

In a statement, ECSD Superintendent Dr. Yancy Ford said, “The Effingham School District is closely monitoring weather conditions from Cyclone Debby in collaboration with the Effingham Emergency Management Agency (EEMA) to assess the potential impact on roads and our area. The forecast predicts an additional four-to-eight inches of rain in our region over the next day, and several roads in the county are currently impassable.

“As a precaution, schools will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and school will not start on Thursday. We understand that the full impact of the storm is still uncertain,” Dr. Ford’s statement continued.

The district’s tentative plan is:

·       Wednesday, Aug. 7: Schools closed

·       Thursday, Aug. 8: No school for students

·       Friday, Aug. 9: Tentative pre-planning work day with Open House Activities

o   3-6 p.m.: Elementary Open House

o   4-7 p.m.: Middle and High School Open House

·       Monday, Aug. 12:  First Day of School
