Tonight’s the night to get some use out of your finest pink formal wear for a “pink tie” affair.
Glaze Beauty Boutique and Day Spa is hosting its second annual Light the Night Pink gala at the Goshen Park courtyard in Rincon. And this year, Paula Duggar hopes folks bring their best dance moves.
“This year it’s going to be more of an event where people get up and dance and get excited and happy versus extremely laid back and cool (like last year),” said Duggar. “…I would like to get the people there up and dancing like it’s a celebration.”
After last year’s buzz-worthy inaugural event, Duggar decided to change things up a bit this year, moving from a jazz lounge theme to a more upbeat sound from Jim Doubleday, who will emcee the event, and his band Encore.
Duggar was inspired to host the breast cancer awareness and fund raising soiree to honor her dear friend Diane Young of Ellabell, who is a breast cancer survivor. She said that she wants to give breast cancer survivors and their families and caregivers an opportunity to dress up and have fun at the gala.
“As I meet the breast cancer survivors, they’re very unique, happy people,” Duggar said. “They’re happy because they’re happy to be alive. I think the event should bring awareness to the community for all the people who are here as breast cancer survivors, it’s celebrating their lives.”
Duggar expects more than 30 survivors and their families. And she said that people are excited about the event also because husbands, sons, fathers, boyfriends and brothers are involved, too.
“It’s nice too because men are involved,” she said. “A lot of breast cancer events are about bringing women together, but there are men standing beside many of these women and have to be supportive, too. So it’s nice that they are able to come with them and enjoy the event as well.”
She also wants to bring an annual event full of glitz and glamour to Effingham County.
“I think people need the opportunity to come out and dress up and feel really good about themselves and network with their community,” said Duggar. “A lot of people like it.
“One of my goals is to bring culture to the community,” said Duggar, “…and to expose the community to a way out of the norm and for that to become the norm. When others see that, it drives people in and people want to live here and want to be involved in the community.”
All proceeds from the event will support the Young Survival Coalition of Savannah, Guardians of the Ribbon and F.O.R.C.E.
The Loft will be making hors d’oeuvres, and a gourmet Italian dinner will be catered, as well as some beer and wine served. Tables and chairs will be donated by 21 Banquet Room.
Tickets will be available at the event for a $20 donation. Light the Night Pink will begin at 6 p.m. in the Goshen Park courtyard at 116 Goshen Commercial Park in Rincon.
