ATLANTA – Nov. 25 is the deadline for Georgia residents who lost income due to Tropical Storm Debby, damage Aug. 4-20, to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA).
Georgians in Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Liberty, Long, and Screven counties may be eligible for Disaster Unemployment to help compensate for income lost as a direct result of Tropical Storm Debby. Individuals in these counties must first apply for regular unemployment insurance on the Georgia Department of Labor website or call 877-709-8185.
DUA benefits may also be available to individuals who became the breadwinner or who provide major financial support for a household because the head of the household died as a direct result of Tropical Storm Debby.
Meanwhile, a FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is open this week in Effingham County to give those affected by Debby, as well as Hurricane Heléne, another option to get help applying for federal assistance, receive updates on their applications and learn about the FEMA appeals process.
The FEMA Mobile Disaster Recovery Center is at the Effingham County Recreation Complex, 808 SR-119, Springfield. Hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. through Saturday, Nov. 23.
To date, more than $6.4 million in FEMA Disaster Assistance has been approved for nearly 2,300 impacted residents in the eight Tropical Storm Debby-designated counties. The deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance is Jan. 7, 2025.
