State School Superintendent Richard Woods named 276 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools from 99 school districts for 2024, Feb. 27.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the 2024 AP Honor Schools,” Supt. Woods said. “I commend them for their hard work to build strong Advanced Placement programs and, as a result, provide high-quality opportunities for Georgia students. Additionally, I am thrilled that the number of AP Honor Schools and school districts continues to rise each year – a testament to the commitment of Georgia public education to expand opportunities for all Georgia students.”
The 2024 AP Honor Schools are named in eight categories based on the results of 2023 AP courses and exams. A list of categories is below, and a complete list of schools is available on the GaDOE website.
AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT. AP courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level learning at the high school level; students who receive a passing score of 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may receive college credit. GaDOE began recognizing AP Honor Schools in 2008.
“Note that on the lists, you will see base high school names; however, we know this is a collaborative effort between our base schools and ECCA,” Effingham County School Superintendent Dr. Yancy Ford said in a statement. “Therefore, I am including ECCA in the information below.”
ECHS and ECCA are recognized as AP Expansion School: showing 25% growth in AP student participation from May 2022 to May 2023 and a minimum of 25 students testing in May 2022.
ECHS, SEHS, and ECCA are recognized as AP Humanity Schools: At least five exams administered in each of the following AP categories: one ELA course, two social studies courses, one fine arts course, and one world language course and a minimum of 25 total exams administered.
ECHS, SEHS, and ECCA are recognized as AP Humanities Achievement Schools: Have met the above criteria with at least 50% of all AP Humanities exams earning scores of 3 or higher.
ECHS, SEHS, and ECCA are recognized as AP STEM Schools: A minimum of five students testing in at least four AP STEM courses, and a minimum of 25 exams administered.
ECHS, SEHS, and ECCA are recognized as AP STEM Achievement Schools: Have met the above criteria with at least 50% of all AP STEM exams earning scores of 3 or higher.
