A bicyclist was seriously injured when he was hit by a pickup on Highway 21 late Wednesday night.

The bicyclist was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center with serious injuries, said Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

According to a witness, the cyclist was riding southbound on Highway 21 when he crossed into traffic and was hit by the truck.

The accident shut down the southbound lanes of Highway 21 at Log Landing Road around 11 p.m.

The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate, Ehsanipoor said.
