A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a community volunteer who has been screened and trained regarding dependency, child development, and juvenile court procedures.  The CASA volunteer training is a 40-hour program that meets the requirements to be an approved guardian ad litem.

“Services are provided free to children and families and empowers families,” said Dr. Julie Pickens, executive director of CASA Ogeechee. “The Superhero Race raises money for kids and families, and the race embodies the spirit of Guyton.”

According to the CASA of Southeast Georgia website, A CASA volunteer develops a supportive relationship with the child and is a constant companion; provides safety and well-being for the child in and out of the courtroom; and provides first-hand, independent information and recommendations to the Court.
