Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 15-year-old juvenile in connection with a bomb threat at Effingham County High School.

Investigators have been following leads and the juvenile was arrested Wednesday. He was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice, according to ECSO Detective David Ehsanipoor.

School system officials had placed a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest in the bomb threats. Ehsanipoor said the reward had no impact on Wednesday’s arrest.

“We’re looking at the other bomb threats, and the reward still stands,” he said. “We’re working in cooperation with school officials.”

The juvenile has been charged with terroristic threats and disrupting a public school in connection with one of the threats.

“We will not tolerate these type of threats,” Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said. “We will utilize recourses and prosecute any suspect who calls in a bomb threat to the fullest extent of law.”

Ehsanipoor said the threats tie up resources such as police and fire departments for extended amounts of time.

“We take it very seriously,” he said.
