ECSO continues investigation into fatal crash on Hwy. 21

The Effingham County Sheriff Office Traffic Division is continuing its investigation into a six-vehicle accident that occurred just before 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.

According to a City of Rincon spokesperson, Rincon PD was responding to a call of a domestic dispute with an alleged aggravated assault at Towne Park Drive East.

While officers were en route, the female driver (alleged aggressor) left the scene.

The driver allegedly ran the red light at Hwy. 21 and Brentwood Drive, causing a six-vehicle crash.

Hwy. 21 was closed in both directions and drivers were detoured to Lisa Drive while the crash was investigated and cleared.

One driver died at the scene and the driver of the suspect vehicle was placed under arrest.

According to the Effingham County Jail Booking Desk, Carla Roberson, 35, is charged with felony aggravated assault; in additional to misdemeanor charges of cruelty to children, reckless driving, criminal trespass, willful obstruction of law enforcement, and failure to obey traffic control device. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
