Agency Assist

Rincon officers requested assistance from Effingham officers in detaining a man who had multiple warrants out for his arrest. He was hiding inside of his apartment and it was known that he had at least one firearm in his possession. All county units provided cover as officers entered the residence. The man and three other occupants were detained. No firearms were found on the premises. The three occupants were ultimately released, as they had no warrants, but the man was placed under arrest. The reporting officer was Bryan Shearouse.

Nov. 1

Wanted Person-Warrant Service; Suspicious Person

An unknown informant advised that a suspicious man was driving an ATV on the roadway with a blower attached to it. The man stated that his boss had asked him to take the blower to fix it. The employer was contacted, and she confirmed the story. A background check was done which revealed that the man had an active warrant out for his arrest for failure to pay child support. He was swiftly arrested. The reporting officer was Dawn DeVoss.

Nov. 2

Domestic Dispute

A woman stated that her husband had become angry at her when she sent her boss a text message. He accused her of cheating on him and threatened to physically beat her. The situation never became physical, but it did occur in front of their minor daughter. He then left the house intoxicated. He was later found driving back to his residence and a field sobriety test was performed. He was found to not be under the influence of alcohol. He advised that he believed his wife to be having an affair and that he was going to pack his belongings and leave that night. The reporting officer was Justin Hynko.

Burglary-First Degree (Felony)

A woman advised that several unidentified men had entered her neighbor’s house and emerged with a bundle before fleeing the scene. The home owner stated that multiple crossbows were missing from the house. She suspected that the culprit was a man who had previously done mechanical work for her at the residence. The reporting officer was Matt Smith.

Affray (Fighting)

An unknown source advised that two men were fighting on the side of the road. They both took off in different directions when officers arrived, but the first man eventually stopped. He stated that the two were just fighting over a family matter. He was bleeding from his eye and nose. The second man returned to the scene and said that they were just wrestling. Both were placed under arrest. The reporting officer was Max Barber.

Wanted Person-Warrant Service

A man was spotted who had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in court. A background check was preformed to validate his identity. He was then placed under arrest. The reporting officer was Paul Davis.

Criminal Trespass

A man stated that a woman who he had evicted from his property had shown back up at the home. The woman was located and she advised that she did not enter the home. The woman’s family also showed up at the property. Deputies were able to defuse the situation. The reporting officer was Justin Hynko.

Nov. 4

Simple Battery-Family Violence

A woman stated that her previously stolen vehicle had been returned by her boyfriend. When she asked him about the keys, he pushed her to the ground. He advised her that the keys were inside the vehicle but, since it was locked, she could not access them. The boyfriend could not be located. The reporting officer was Garett Buckles.

Aggravated Assault; Pointing or Aiming Gun or Pistol at Another; Simple Assault; Public Drunkenness

A man stated that he was playing football with his cousin when another family member approached him asking them to stop as it was scaring away the deer that he was trying to hunt. The two exchanged words before the family member pointed a pistol at the man. The man, in turn, retrieved a pistol from his residence and returned to the scene to confront the man as he drove away. At first, he advised that he did not point the pistol at the family member, but he later retracted this statement after being advised that an officer had witnessed the confrontation. It was noted that the man smelled of alcohol and appeared to be drunk. The cousin confirmed this story. The family member also admitted to being under the influence of alcohol. Both parties were swiftly arrested. The reporting officer was Matt Smith.

Nov. 5

Discharging Firearms Within 300 Yards of Other Dwelling

A woman stated that her dog had gotten out while her children were playing with it and her neighbor shot at it. The neighbor advised that the dog was harassing his cat. Both parties were issued warnings about the incident. The reporting officer was James Ashley Denney.

Simple Assault; Motor Vehicle Crash

A man stated that a woman at a party called her boyfriend to come get her. He believed that the boyfriend was abusive due to bruises on the woman. When the boyfriend arrived, the man went to speak with him but the boyfriend attempted to punch the man. The man then tried to pull the window off the vehicle as the boyfriend started to back up. The man fell over and his leg was run over. Officers noted that the man smelled of alcoholic beverages. Most witnesses were under the influence of alcohol but the driver’s name and address were obtained. The woman was found at this address and she supported the previous story. The boyfriend stated that the man was the instigator and that he attempted to assist him after his leg was run over. A field sobriety test was performed on the boyfriend, who was found to not be drunk. Another man at the party said that his foot was run over. He also gave a similar account of the story. The reporting officer was Bryan Shearouse.

Nov. 3

Damage to Property

A man driving a tractor trailer for an auto supply store accidently hit a vehicle that was parked in the store’s parking lot. The vehicle, in turn, hit another vehicle that was parked next to it. This caused damage to all vehicles that were involved. The manager of the store and the driver both stated that the store would pay for the damages. The reporting officer was Malcom Foy.

Simple Battery-Family Violence; Obstructing or Hindering Persons Making Emergency Call

A woman stated that her ex-boyfriend came to her house and stole $20 from her purse. When she confronted him, he got upset and began to yell at her. She then demanded that he and his friend leave her residence. The ex-boyfriend did step outside but he soon went back in to collect his belongings. He suddenly became very angry and proceeded to grab the woman by the neck and throw her against the wall. When she tried to call police, he grabbed the phone and stomped on it. She called 911 after he left. The ex-boyfriend was unable to be reached. The reporting officer was Bobby McCloud.
