Arrests

Austin Talaga Reina, Hwy. 21 Bypass/McCall Road. – failure to stop at stop sign, driving while unlicensed.

Darlene Gay Thorton, Deerfield Drive – DUI, open alcohol container in car.

 

Incidents

ECSO lobby – a woman reported that her children’s father did not meet her to exchange custody of their children as per court order. The woman alleges that she has not seen her children for over 2 ½ months. She was advised to contact her attorney and/or the court regarding contempt of court or violation of court order.

Noel C. Conaway Road – an employee of the Dollar General reported two women had entered the store and allegedly took some items without paying for them. They left the parking lot in a grey Honda Odessey with Florida plates heading west on Hwy. 30 – driven by a male accomplice. Deputy was unsuccessful in locating the suspect vehicle after canvassing the immediate area.

Zittrouer Road – a woman reported that an unknown person struck her mailbox possibly with a vehicle (along with others in the row) and damaged it.

Crystal Drive – a man reported that an unknown person(s) may have stolen his bicycle (a bright blue Mongoose with 29-inch wheels) and his son’s bike (a blue Huffy). The man believes he saw the bikes in front of a house on Katie Drive. The deputy drove past the house but did not see the bikes.

Ashley Drive – a man reported that his wife had locked him out of the house while he was trying to gather his belongings and leave. An arrangement was made to allow the man into the house to collect his belongings.

Zipper Drive – a man reported that one of two people who recently drove his truck may have taken his insurance and registration cards from inside the truck.

Wrigley Field Drive – a man reported that he received a notice from Code Enforcement regarding two piles of dirt in his backyard. He wanted to file a report of “criminal trespass” because whomever reported the dirt had to enter his backyard to see the dirt piles.

Little McCall Road – a man reported that an unknown person may have fired a gun in his direction. Deputies were unsuccessful in locating any shell casings nor finding a suspect.

First Street – a man reported that the tag on his vehicle was missing after it was towed from one location in Rincon to another location in Richmond Hill for repairs.

McCall Road – a woman reported that her brother had been the victim of a hit-and-run accident. According to EMS, the man may have suffered head trauma in addition to other injuries. In their investigation at the scene, deputies recovered parts of a headlight and side mirror. Based on a serial number on the mirror, deputies determined the man was struck by a Chevy Silverado.

S. Laurel St. – a man reported to Springfield PD that an unknown person and/or vehicle damaged his 2024 Toyota Sequoia while it was parked at the side of a business.

Fort Howard Road – The assistant manager of a Dollar General reported that a man and a woman argued with her and refused to leave after the assistant manager told them they could buy only one bag of ice. Deputies followed up with the man (woman was not present) and issued him a trespassing citation.

ECSO office – a man reported that he observed an unknown male attempt to break into the band room at Effingham County High School. The man gave a description of the would-be burglar, the vehicle (a white Chevy Equinox) and the vehicle tag to the ECSO: CYD4800.

Hwy 17N – Deputies had to call a tow truck to free an 18-wheeler that got stuck in the mud along the side of the road when it attempted to turn around before a road closure.

Yarbrough Landing – a woman reported she has been having an ongoing argument with a neighbor regarding alleged damage to a gate and easement between their properties. The woman reported the neighbor is now sending harassing and threatening texts.

Black Pine Drive – a woman reported that her dog, a pit-chihuahua mix named Breeze, was possibly taken by an unknown person, or allowed to escape, from its crate on the front porch. The dog was wearing a blue/black snap collar.

Hwy. 17 – ECSO was dispatched to a vehicle fire. Deputies were unsuccessful in contacting the property owner. Effingham County Fire Rescue was called to extinguish the fire. There are no residences on the property and due to the extensive fire damage, no identification numbers could be obtained from the vehicle. It is likely the vehicle is a salvage vehicle.

Hwy. 21S – Springfield PD was dispatched to McDonald’s when an employee was confronted by an irate customer who allegedly made threatening comments and brandished a firearm.

Hwy 21N – a woman reported to Springfield PD that she received notifications on her phone about an attempted fraudulent use of her credit card at two local gas stations.

Laurel Street – Springfield PD issued a report regarding a driver backing into a gas station pump and damaging one of the car’s taillights. There was no visible damage to the pump.

Church Road – a man reported that he had a verbal confrontation with his sister’s boyfriend who allegedly thew a cell phone at the man that struck the man’s face.

Hwy. 21N/Laurel St. – Springfield PD responded to an inoperable, unoccupied vehicle blocking traffic. Officer called tow service to remove the vehicle and informed the owner where to pick it up.
