The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to a single-vehicle crash near Gracen and Old Louisville roads just after 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.

Preliminary information indicates that 37-year-old Tonya Mooney traveled through the intersection of Gracen Road and Old Louisville Road and ended up in a pond upside down.

Good Samaritans and deputies attempted to free Mooney out of the submerged vehicle but were unsuccessful.

Mooney was the only occupant in the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene. She leaves behind two adult children and one teenage daughter: Gage Jenkins, 20, Hailee Jenkins, 18, and Lakelyn Jenkins, 14.
