“We are currently monitoring Hurricane Milton. The Effingham Emergency Management Agency is coordinating with GEMA and staying abreast with all information as it comes in,” said EEMA Coordinator Shanna Smith Monday afternoon. “There is still uncertainty for our area due to its current location, but we are anticipating a minimum of 1-2 inches of rain.
“We will update our social media and mass notification system as updates come in,” Smith added.
As of Monday, Hurricane Milton had been upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of more than 158 mph. According to the current NOAA map, Hurricane Milton is expected to cross through Florida Wednesday evening and Thursday.
