Effingham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Yancy Ford stated Tuesday morning that schools will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

“The Effingham County School District will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30 as we anticipate the onset of inclement weather due to Hurricane Idalia. We expect to begin receiving wind midday and we want to ensure students and staff are safe,” Dr. Ford said in a statement released at 10:20 Tuesday morning.

“School activities today will resume as normal. The School District will continue to work closely with Effingham County Emergency Management to monitor weather conditions during the day on Wednesday and determine ongoing school schedules for Thursday,” Dr. Ford continued. “If school closure is necessary for Aug. 31, we will notify ECSD families via phone, email, announcements on local news media outlets, and updates to our district's Facebook page.”
