Special to the Herald

SAVANNAH – Leopold’s Ice Cream is partnering with Make-A-Wish® Georgia in April for a heartfelt campaign inspired by one of our own: Sun, the child of a Leopold’s team member and a Make-A-Wish recipient. Sun’s wish was to visit Hawaii, a dream that recently came true thanks to the efforts of Make-A-Wish.

To celebrate Sun’s journey and help more wishes come true, Leopold’s has created a limited-time flavor: Pinango Banapple – a tropical blend of pineapple, mango, banana, and apple. This custom flavor captures the spirit of Hawaii and honors Sun’s adventure.

Local Wish recipients have been asked to help as ambassadors.

Sam Wimberly of Effingham County, a Wish recipient who was granted a trip with his family to Disney World in 2017, is helping to promote Leopold’s Ice Cream each weekend in April.

“Sam was born with a severe congenital heart defect and has had two open heart surgeries. It is anticipated he will need a heart transplant eventually,” his mother Kimberly said. “Sam is a sophomore at Effingham County High School, in their Honors and AP courses, and a tuba player in their marching band -- all things we were told by doctors years ago he would never get to do.”

Wimberly added that since the trip, they have worked with Make-A-Wish as much as possible.

From April 1 through April 30, a portion of proceeds from every scoop of Pinango Banapple sold will go directly to Make-A-Wish Georgia, helping fund life-changing wishes for other children with critical illnesses.

“We’ve always believed ice cream can bring joy, but this campaign goes beyond a scoop,” said Stratton Leopold, owner of Leopold’s Ice Cream. “This is about community, hope, and honoring a very special young boy who inspires us all.”

If customers have their mind on a different flavor, they can support Leopold’s campaign to grant a wish to a Georgia child by donating to this link: bit.ly/3YbF0dr. There are currently 47 Savannah-area children waiting for their wishes to be granted.

Leopold’s Ice Cream is located at 212 E. Broughton St., Savannah.
