Effingham School District to hold millage rate public hearings
Five Year Tax Digest

Staff reports

The Effingham County School Board of Education will hold three public hearings before voting on the new millage rate for 2025.

Hearings will be held at the BOE building, 405 N. Ash St., Springfield. Two hearings are scheduled for Aug. 7 – 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.; with the final hearing set for Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. The school board has its regularly scheduled meetings at 2 p.m. Aug. 7 and 7 p.m. Aug. 15.

Millage rates are calculated based on the assessed value, which is 40 percent of the fair market value. For example, a house with a fair market value of $200,000 has an assessed value of $80,000 ($200,000 x 0.40). With the proposed ECSD millage rate of 16.5, the tax on this example would be $1,320.00 ($80,000 x 16.5/1000).
