A Tuesday afternoon fire destroyed more than half of a mobile and has displaced its family.
Effingham County firefighters responded to a fire at the home of Kelvin and MaryAnn Wallace at the intersection of Highway 21 and Chester Thomas Road, about six miles north of Springfield. Firefighters, with assistance from Springfield and Newington departments, extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes.
No one was home at the time, and fire department investigators are looking into why the trailer caught fire.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
Effingham County firefighters also were called out last Saturday to Faulkville when a fire consumed a mobile home near the intersection of Highways 17 and 30.
