More than 200 participants braved the cool, cloudy weather Saturday morning Oct. 14 to run or walk the streets of Guyton for the first “Soul to Sole” fundraising race for the Effingham Health System Foundation.

In addition to the race, participants could also enter glammed up racing shoes (in pink, of course) for prizes.

Runners showed up decked out with pink shirts, shorts, hair and even tutus – all to raise awareness of breast cancer and funds for Effingham Foundation’s “Keeping Quality Healthcare Close to Home” capital campaign, which includes Effingham Cancer Care Center as one of its three priorities, according to Mari Carswell, on behalf of the Effingham Health System Foundation.

The Guyton gym hosted 10 vendors who provided “cancer-related self-care” services and information.

“(It was) absolutely a success!” said Carswell. “It was a great first-year event and allowed for Effingham Health Systems to connect with the community in a meaningful way, while raising funds for EHS Foundation.”

The Foundation is already looking at dates for next year with location still to be confirmed; and “Guyton was a perfect setting for the first year,” Carswell added.
