The Effingham County Health Department will host its annual drive-through flu shot event on Thursday, Oct. 10. Flu vaccinations will be available from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in the health department’s parking lot at 802 Hwy 119 South in Springfield.

Flu vaccine will be available for everyone aged six months and older, including the high-dose flu vaccine recommended for seniors aged 65 and up. Most people will have no out-of-pocket cost for vaccination. Many health insurance plans are accepted, and there are no-cost options for individuals without health insurance.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over six months of age. Vaccination is particularly important for those at high risk of complications from flu, including adults 65 and older, children younger than five, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, and people with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease.

In addition to the drive-through event, flu vaccinations are available at the Effingham County Health Department during regular clinic hours by appointment. You can schedule an appointment in the clinic by calling 912-754-6484.

Flu shots and COVID shots can be given at the same appointment, if desired. Shipments of the updated COVID vaccine for the 2024-2025 respiratory virus season have been limited, but additional shipments are expected in the coming weeks. Contact the Effingham County Health Department at 912-754-6484 for the latest information on COVID vaccine availability.
