Girl Scout Cookie time! The staff of the Effingham Herald had the pleasure of meeting Felisa Metroz last week with order form in hand. Metroz is a Girl Scout with Troop 30235 here in Effingham County. According to her mother, Carolyn Metroz, area Girl Scout Troops have officially unloaded 3,593 cases of the delightful cookies that only come around once a year.
The official Girl Scouts website states, “Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.” That mission was clearly shown in this particular Girl Scout as she gave us the information we needed to make a purchasing decision.
Felisa let us know that there was a new flavor this year; Raspberry Rally which is a think crispy cookie infused with raspberry and dipped in a chocolate coating. Raspberry Rally cookies are not available to order until February 27th and can be ordered through a local Troop online and shipped to your home. The online sales will allow the girls to learn new skills and build their ecommerce business.
For those who were not able to order already, booth sales start Feb. 10 and will continue through March 5. Keep a look out for Effingham County Girl Scout troops with their booths set up at various locations around the county. The cookies are $5 per box. You can pay with cash, digital cookie pay with your credit card, or by check. If you would like to do more to help these young ladies visit the Girl Scouts website to donate , volunteer, or become a Girl Scout.
In case you can’t decide which ones to get, a little hint from the Metroz family: “The Girl Scout S’mores are delicious when you warm them up in the microwave for 10 seconds.” Get out there and you’re your favorite flavor! There’s no better way to support these amazing girls and help them learn along the way. Enjoy!
