Special to the Herald
Lisa Bush has been named the Grand Marshal of the 44th Rincon Lions Christmas Parade, which will be held in Rincon, Saturday, Nov. 30.
Bush has more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, dedicating much of her career to Manna House Food Pantry and Thrift Store, where she has worked to find solutions to efficiently distribute food to area families in need while making a meaningful impact in the community.
Before COVID, Manna House served an average of 300 families per month. The distribution process was modified with Bush's guidance, allowing families to come every week rather than monthly, reducing food insecurity in our local community.
Her service journey began at a young age when she worked in various roles at churches where her father served as a pastor. In addition to her work at Manna House, she volunteered on several nonprofit boards, including ECHS Chorus, Effingham Emergency Management, and Two Rivers Health Clinic, and served in various community organizations, including Kiwanis of Effingham.
In 2023, Bush was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a rare condition that left her paralyzed from head to foot. She was placed on life support in Atlanta. After spending 97 days in the hospital, she was transferred to Savannah for further treatment and later moved to Florida for rehab and recovery.
Over the past year, Bush went back to work on light duty. She was given a new position as Director of Outreach. She secured more than $75,000 in funding from community partners in this role. She also guided the orientation of more than 25 new volunteers, showcasing her leadership and commitment to the organization's mission. She will now begin to focus on the future and the new opportunities that God has in store for her.
Bush is the daughter of Rev. Calvin and Brenda Bradley. Bush has two siblings -- Angela Musten in Virginia and Stephen Bradley of Savannah. She earned her bachelor's degree from Covington Seminary and is married to Richard Bush, chief deputy of the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. They have two adult children and attend Countryside Baptist Church in Guyton.
