The Mars Theatre is winding down its Spring Season with Emily Yates’ Las Vegas-style performance, “Set Fire to the Rain”. Yates, along with Broadway’s Simon Pearl and Vaden Thurgood, will be taking the stage Saturday, June 24 at 7 p.m. in Springfield. Yates has toured internationally and headlined numerous theatres across the Las Vegas Strip.
During the show, Yates may perform everything from Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money” to Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” Tickets are still available and can be purchased at Springfield City Hall, online at www.marstheatre.com or by calling 912-754-1118. As a token of appreciation, the Mars is offering a promotional code for discounted ticket prices at all levels. This show is made possible in part by a grant from Georgia Council for The Arts.
On June 13, The Mars welcomed Oscar®-winner Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters to the stage. The venue was sold out and had patrons out of their seats and rocking to the Boxmasters’ original compositions. The group welcomed special guests, Fran Moran and The Nervous Wrecks.
As the community grows, so does the theatre’s aspiration to reach a wider audience.
This year, The Mars received two additional grants which have assisted in funding acts such as Unchained: A Van Halen Tribute and Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters. The Fox Theatre Institute and Georgia Presenters as well as the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce have awarded funding for the shows.
The summer season will offer new-release movies, premiering on Fridays and participation in Springfield’s First Friday events. Family discount shows will continue at noon on Tuesday and Thursday through July.
