Special to the Herald
SPRINGFIELD — The Historic Mars Theatre invites families and audiences of all ages to a cinematic experience on Easter weekend, April 18-20.
The story of the New Testament comes to life on the big screen in The King of Kings, presented by Angel Studios.
The animated feature is inspired by the short story “The Life of Our Lord” by Charles Dickens and the story of Jesus Christ, offering a fresh retelling of a timeless message. The film’s closing credits feature the song “Live Like That,” co-written and powerfully performed by the Tony and Emmy award winning Kristin Chenoweth.

In The King of Kings, renowned storyteller Charles Dickens struggles to bond with his imaginative son, Walter. After an interruption during one of Dickens’ readings, he decides to share the story of Jesus Christ, hoping to bridge the gap between them. As Dickens narrates, Walter becomes immersed in the life of Jesus, witnessing His miracles, facing His trials, and understanding His ultimate sacrifice. This life-changing journey deepens the bond between father and son, illuminating the power of faith, love, and redemption.
The Mars Theatre’s Easter Weekend event offers multiple opportunities to experience this moving film: Friday, April 18, 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 19 - matinee at noon and evening showing at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m.
This event is a way for families to reflect and connect during Easter. The visuals and storytelling aim to provide an unforgettable experience.
