Scott Dutton appointed GBI Assistant Director
Decatur – Director Chris Hosey has appointed retired Deputy Director of GBI’s Investigative Division Scott Dutton to GBI Assistant Director. As Assistant Director, Dutton will assist Director Hosey in overseeing the execution of the GBI’s investigative, scientific, information, and administrative services to the state.
“Assistant Director Dutton is a constant professional with extensive knowledge of the agency from his time with the GBI,” said GBI Director Hosey. “I am grateful to AD Dutton for taking this role and look forward to his service to the agency.”
AD Dutton worked at the GBI for 32 years before retiring in 2020. He began his career in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office in 1985. In July 1988, he became a special agent with the GBI assigned to the Thomaston Regional Office in middle Georgia. Following his time in the regional office, Dutton spent over ten years representing the GBI on various drug enforcement units, including the Atlanta Regional Drug Enforcement Office, the Governor’s Marijuana Eradication Task Force, the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force, Governor’s Strike Force on Drugs and Violent Crime, and the State Drug Task Force, the GBI’s statewide undercover program.
Dutton is a graduate of the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College at Columbus State University and FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Miss Coastal Georgia Teen USA crowned
Chatham Sarver of Guyton was crowned Miss Coastal Georgia Teen USA on Aug. 12. Sarver is a dual-enrolled junior in a homeschool program and attends college classes at Georgia Southern University-Armstrong. The next round of competition will be Miss Georgia Teen USA in McDonough on Nov. 18.
Her community project is her own initiative called “The Power of the Post-It Note.” As a teen who has struggled with mental health, she created this initiative to encourage, support, and uplift others by leaving Post-It notes with words of affirmation in and around the community.

Gnann family reunion planned
The descendants of Cletus and Mary Weitman Gnann will be holding the 55th annual reunion Saturday Sept. 2, at the home of Ralph and Jane Gnann in Stillwell.
A basket lunch will be served at 12:30 for relatives.

Fail House in Ebenezer renovated
The Georgia Salzburger Society celebrated the recent renovation of the Fail House in Ebenezer Aug. 13. The Fail House is more than 200 years old and is an example of a middle-class dwelling in the 18th Century. The building is one of the last homes left on the site after the Civil War.
