Dr. Terry Brasier named Savannah Tech vice president of student affairs

SAVANNAH – Savannah Technical College has selected Dr. Terry Brasier as its vice president of student affairs. He is responsible for providing and administering a comprehensive system of student support services at the college, including counseling, admission, orientation, testing, financial aid, job placement, special populations assistance, graduation events, and student activities.
Brasier has more than 25 years of leadership experience with student services for higher education institutions. Previously he was vice president of student services at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, North Carolina.
Brasier earned a doctorate of education in higher education administration from North Carolina State University, a master’s in vocational/industrial education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and a bachelor’s in textile and apparel management from North Carolina State University.

Parker’s partners with Wounded Warrior Project
Parker’s Kitchen is joining forces with WWP to help provide life-changing services and programs to local post-9/11-injured veterans and their families at no cost to them, including vital career development and support as veterans transition to civilian life. As part of an ongoing commitment to give back to the community and to be a force for positive change, proceeds from the Parker’s Kitchen round-up campaign from March 1 through July 4 will be donated to support WWP.
The company will match 25% of each customer donation, amplifying the impact and supporting even more local veterans. Round-up donations can be made at all Parker’s and Parker’s Kitchen retail stores across coastal Georgia and South Carolina.

Wounded Warrior Project served almost 13,000 warriors and family members in Georgia in FY23 (Oct 2022-Sept 2023) and advocated for over 680,000 Georgia veterans. In addition, WWP served almost 4,900 warriors and family members in South Carolina in FY23 (Oct 2022-Sept 2023) and advocated for 390,000 South Carolina veterans.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation announces two promotions

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announces the promotion of Deno Deveaux to Assistant Manager of the GBI’s Coastal Regional Crime Lab; and Kristen Fripp to Manager of the GBI’s Coastal Regional Crime Lab. Fripp will be responsible for the supervision of staff and others within the Coastal Crime Lab; and Deveaux will be responsible for assisting the Manager with the supervision of staff and others within the Coastal Crime Lab.
“Deno Deveaux is an excellent addition to the leadership team at the Coastal Regional Crime Lab,” said GBI Director Chris Hosey. “Deno brings a wealth of experience to his new role that will benefit the Coastal Lab and the communities it serves.
“Kristen Fripp is a great leader and knowledgeable scientist,” Hosey added. “Her expertise and experience will be vital in her new role, and I know she will help guide all Coastal Crime Lab personnel as they continue to serve the state of Georgia.”
Deveaux began his career with GBI in the Drug Chemistry Section at GBI Headquarters in 2004 and later joined the GBI Coastal Regional Crime Lab in 2005.
In 2002, Deveaux graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry: biochemistry. He is a member of the Southern Association of Forensic Scientists.
Deveaux is from Nassau, Bahamas and is a former Bahamian Police Officer.
Fripp began her career at the GBI in July 1999 as a laboratory technician in the Chemistry Section of the Coastal Lab. In November of 1999, she was promoted to Forensic Biologist. Fripp was promoted to statewide Biology Technical Leader in 2006 and Assistant Laboratory Manager in 2011.
Fripp graduated from Long Island University, Southampton Campus in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in marine science with a concentration in biology. She earned a master's degree in applied biology in 1998 from Georgia Tech and a Master of Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University in 2016.
Fripp is originally from Hewitt, New Jersey, and currently lives in Chatham County.

Tharros Place to host stakeholder meeting
Tharros Place, a local nonprofit serving underage survivors of human trafficking, will host its Spring Human Trafficking Stakeholder Meeting, Wednesday, March 13, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Eckburg Auditorium at Savannah Technical College, 5717 White Bluff Rd, Savannah.
This event is free and open to the public and includes networking, lunch, and a presentation by Katherine Breeden of Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia. Those interested in learning more about human trafficking and collaborating to bring it to an end are encouraged to attend.
