Guyton – Matthew “Matt” Calvin Nease, 37, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2023, at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a brief illness. Matt will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.
Matt was born on October 30, 1985, in Savannah and lived in Effingham his entire life. He was a member of Pineora Baptist Church and loved God, his family, and his friends. He liked riding on his buggy and driving his Ford truck. Matt also enjoyed helping around the family farm and could often be seen cutting grass, cleaning up trees, and feeding all the animals. To know Matt “Big Daddy” was to love him. He was a big teddy bear with a hilarious, dry sense of humor and his greatest joy came in teasing his nieces and nephews in his quiet way. Matt was very close to his cousins; he considered them brothers and a sister. He was also an “uncle” to his cousin’s children, who loved to see Big Daddy and what he was going to do next.
Matt will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Barney G. Nease; paternal grandparents, Calvin and Margaret Nease; and maternal grandparents, Tommy and Tinie Bailey.
Matt is survived by: his mother, Norma B. Nease; brother, Ben (Lori) Nease and twin-brother, Micah (Heather) Nease; nieces and nephews, Clair, Tucker, Ryann and Grayson Nease. He also leaves behind his aunts, uncles, cousins, special cousin, Glenn Butler, and close friends, James and Desi Killian (Bailey and Luke). In addition, Matt leaves behind a host of friends who loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Carlson & Riggs Funeral Home with interment to follow in Guyton Cemetery.
