SPRINGFIELD – Ride enthusiasts are expected to be able to give an old favorite a spin at the 2024 Effingham Fair.

Plans call for a Ferris wheel to be at the event set for Oct. 17-26 at the fairgrounds in downtown Springfield. Last year’s fair didn’t include a Ferris wheel because of an availability issue.

The theme of the 2024 fair is: Effingham Fair … Continuing the Legacy of Farm and Family.

In addition to the Ferris wheel, the fair will feature many others rides. Daily attractions will also include a petting zoo.

There will also be fair booth exhibits created by businesses, garden clubs, youth groups, high school clubs and churches. Individual exhibitions will feature homemade baked goods, arts and crafts, quilts, crochet items, art, canned goods, potted plants and crops (corn, cotton, peanuts, pecans, squash, peas, pears, etc.).

Livestock shows are set Oct. 23-25, beginning at 7 p.m. all three nights. The animals will be shown by Effingham County 4-H or FFA members, or children of pre-club age.

The Effingham Fair Beauty Pageant is slated Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.
