SPRINGFIELD -- Several opportunities are available for people who are eager to serve their community in a special way Nov. 7.

The Effingham County Board of Elections & Registration Office is in need of poll workers.

Poll workers, who are paid for their service, must report to their assigned polling place at 5:30 a.m. and remain there until the last voter in line at 7 p.m. has cast their ballot and closing procedures are completed.

Hourly pay starts at $9.16/hour for poll workers.

Qualifications include:

·        Must be a U.S. citizen

·        At least 16 years old

·        Resident of Effingham County

·        Able to read, write, and speak English

·        Not a convicted felon
