A transformer failed at Georgia Power’s substation near Goshen Road and Highway 21, leading to widespread blackouts in Rincon on Friday morning.

Georgia Power has routed power through its Rincon substation in order to restore power to residents affected by the outage. A replacement transformer was scheduled to be brought from Augusta to take the place of the transformer that failed.

About 3,500 residents were affected by Friday morning’s power outage.
