JESUP -- After falling behind 6-0, the Effingham County Rebels caught the Wayne County Yellow Jackets only to lose 7-6 Thursday night.
The Rebels suffered another walkoff defeat when Cooper delivered a seventh-inning RBI single on a 1-2 pitch from Ethan Johnson, who took the hill in relief.
Johnson threw 15 pitches, allowing one run, one walk and two hits. Starter Colton Long allowed the Yellow Jackets' other runs in 3 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits and fanned seven.
Christian Campbell led Effingham County at the plate, going 3-for-4. Ryan Harley, Cullen Wake and Chase Howze each had an RBI in the Rebels' fourth at-bat.
The Rebels will host Burke County at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Bears logged a 3-2 walkoff win against Effingham County on Feb. 28 in Waynesboro.
