SPRINGFIELD -- Effingham County officials will celebrate the renovations and additions made to McCall Park with a ribbon cutting to be held June 10 at 10 a.m. at the park, located at 5450 McCall Road in Rincon.
The public is invited to join commissioners as they officially open the park for the first time since summer of 2021. Refreshments and complimentary Kona Ice will be served.
Improvements made to McCall Park include adding a multi-purpose field (for soccer, lacrosse or football), a full-sized outdoor basketball court, a big and little dog park (separate areas for big and little dogs), a 1/3-mile paved walking trail and a new paved parking lot. Renovations were made to the baseball field, bathrooms, pavilion and sign. Plans to add a new playground this year are also in the works.
District 2 Commissioner Roger Burdette stated, “Exceptional parks and recreation facilities are key elements of a strong, safe, and family-friendly community. The renovation and improvements to McCall Park demonstrates this commitment to both our tax payers, as well as our recreation and youth sports programs.”
Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds and generous donations from Omnitrax and Keith Sapp, in honor of his son Jake, have helped to bring these much-needed improvements to the park, which will be open daily from dawn to dusk after the reopening.
