Special to the Herald
It started with a phone call and a question.
Bonnie King of ReMax First Choice in Rincon called Pastor Delmons White of Union Springs Methodist Church in Springfield saying that she and her team wanted to donate “eight or ten” turkeys to families for Thanksgiving. King asked White if his church was planning to put together boxes to help families.
“We are a small church that have sincere compassion for the less fortunate and desire to do the Lord’s will,” Pastor White said. “I had not spoken with Ms. King since before COVID and I was glad to hear from her.”
White added that they set up a time for him to pick up the donated turkeys. “The eight or ten had become 12 with a gift card that could purchase one more,” White said.
White said he works with the school social workers to confidentially help families with children needing support. Families in the community were also helped.
“We added things (to the boxes) based on family size,” White said. “The boxes were delivered Sunday after church and everyone was very appreciative.
“Ms. Tara, Bonnie, and team, thank you all for helping us here at Union Spring to adhere to Matthew 25:35(a) ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food’,” Pastor White said. “Through your very generous donation 13 families will have a happy Thanksgiving and also now have renewed hope in humanity. Our prayers go out for all of you that God will bless everything your hands touch and your business will be prosperous.”
