Rincon City Council discussed tentative plans for Patriot Park at its meeting Monday night and gave the city manager the go-ahead to seek out bids for the first phase of work, which includes two tennis courts and parking areas.
Councilman Ken Baxley said they had decided to break the project up into smaller pieces in order to save some money.
“It should come out cheaper,” he said.
City Manager Donald Toms explained that there are other changes to EMC Engineering’s original rendering of the park.
David Wooten, the city’s recreation coordinator, recommended removing the pavilion from the center of the park in order to allow for more green space.
“(The pavilion) eats up some of the space,” he said. “By moving it to a corner, we would open up more space for games of soccer or ultimate Frisbee.”
