The City of Rincon issued a press release Sept. 26 stating that it has terminated its affiliation with Jim Watkins. Watkins was an independent contractor serving as the city’s golf course superintendent.

“We have taken swift and immediate action to address the city’s liability as soon as we were able to confirm the allegations regarding the background of Mr. Watkins,” says City Manager Jonathan Lynn, in the statement from the city.

According to the press release, this action came about following recently being made aware of Watkins’ criminal history during a city council meeting by a citizen who was discussing background check polices for the city.

The city is working to finalize its updated policy on background checks for anyone associated with the city, the city's statement concluded.
