More lies from Guyton Councilman Hamby
Letter to the Editor generic

Regarding City of Guyton Councilman Theodore Hamby’s short term in office to date -- let me be perfectly clear about this so there are no misunderstandings:
I’m not dying from stage 4 lymphoma cancer. This claim was a disgusting attack weaponizing a terrible disease against me – all because I dislike the expensive multi-year tax increase to pay top-dollar retirement for City Council members. Especially for one city council member who has never had full-time employment, who campaigned so hard against this retirement plan, then changed his vote for the retirement plan helping it pass 3 to 2.

After Mayor Andy Harville’s veto of this retirement plan This very same councilman helped spread this horrible lie about me. Hamby posted on Facebook, “Sorry to hear about your cancer,” without checking with me to find out if that statement was true. Why, you may ask, didn’t he check with me first.? The answer is simple. His friend posted the lie under a fake Facebook account on a Facebook page that likes using anonymous accounts to post lies about citizens at will.

I do hope they tell me where and when my funeral will be held. I sure would hate to miss that!

Now we come to the list of the short-time Councilman Hamby’s in-office problems. I already touched on the broken campaign promise regarding the retirement plan, which angered many of his voter base.
How hard Hamby complained and said the land purchase for the YMCA in the city of Guyton was a “huge mistake” and the city “bailed out” the Spiva Law Group for a bad land deal. He said the Y would never fly and people would go to Planet Fitness.

Then in a sudden turnaround, he poses next to the grand opening sign thumbs up like it’s the best thing ever happened in Guyton, as if it was his own idea.

The Guyton Y grand opening was a huge success.
Next on the list comes the attempt to legalize cannabis without doing any research or cause-and-effect study on how the state law would affect city law enforcement.
Next we come to the biggest scandal in Hamby’s short political career: the Kelly Hoffner incident in Ms. Hoffner’s runoff election for county tax commissioner. Hoffner alleged that Councilman Hamby misrepresented himself and attempted to get paid for services that the Hoffner camp thought was illegal and refused to pay and go along with Hamby. The incident was reported to the Guyton ethics committee who found Councilman Hamby guilty of ethics violations.
Next in a story that just recently broke, Councilman Hamby is asking for student loan forgiveness with more then a hint of falsifying information on the application. He claims his city council position is full-time employment.
I have heard from many constituents of city of Guyton who are very disappointed and displeased with Councilman Hamby’s poor decisions and immature behavior. Guyton citizens want the drama to end and get on doing city business again and not personal agendas.

Guyton deserves to have good, elected officials who work for the community and betterment of the citizens -- not this constant chaos this one councilmember brings to the table.

Also for the record, Councilman Hamby does not “live rent free” in my head. My point is all this wasted time on boondoggle proposals and lies hurts everyone in our city. It’s all counter-productive and a huge black eye for all that live within Guyton.

Mike Gerwig,

Guyton
