Op-Ed: SNOW some love to local businesses

As we thaw out after nearly a week of snowmen, ice mounds, slippery slopes, and likely more soup and hot cocoa than we could stomach, it’s hard not to think about the businesses that felt the weight of those lost days the most. For many of our small- and midsize businesses, four, five six days without customers isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a real hit to their bottom line.

Whether it’s your favorite coffee shop, that little boutique you love, or the local service provider who’s always there when you need them, these businesses are the backbone of our community. They’re run by our neighbors and friends, and they depend on us just as much as we depend on them.

Now’s the perfect time to show our local businesses some love. Head out to dinner, stop by a local retailer, or call up a local service provider. Every little bit makes a difference—whether it’s grabbing a meal, picking up something you’ve been needing, or finally scheduling that service you’ve been putting off. Those dollars you spend locally don’t just help a business—they help families, create jobs, and keep our community strong.

If you’re looking for ideas, the Chamber has you covered. Our business directory is a great resource for finding everything from restaurants and shops to professional services right here in Effingham County. Visit our website or give us a call, and we’ll help connect you to the businesses that make our county such a great place to live.

As they always seem to do, the recent storm again reminded us of how much we all rely on each other. Now, it’s our chance to step up for the businesses that make Effingham County home. So, let’s get back out there, support the businesses that support us, and show our local community just how much we appreciate them.

And remember, the Chamber team is always here to help. Whether you’re a business owner or a community member looking to get involved, don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we’ve got this.
