By Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-GA
2024 hasn’t been the easiest year for many of us. But time and again I watched Georgians in every corner of the state—from Atlanta to Apalachee to Augusta to Albany—come to the aid of their neighbors and help families and communities find a way forward.
Georgians have overcome so much over the past year, which is why I’ve worked tirelessly to ensure the federal government was giving our state its fair share. As a proud voice for Georgia in the Senate, I look forward to continuing my work to center the people in the public policy coming out of Washington—in 2025 and beyond.
Below are some of my favorite wins and moments from 2024:
Lowering Costs
It’s no secret that too many Georgians have been struggling because of high costs on everyday goods and services. That’s why I’ve focused sharply in 2024 on working to lower costs and put money back in Georgians' pockets.
Airlines: Secured new protections ensuring fliers get a refund when their flight is canceled or significantly delayed and aren’t charged extra just to sit together.
Overdraft Fees: Successfully fought to end a rule that allowed banks to collect burdensome overdraft fees, saving Americans an estimated $5 billion annually.
Student Debt Relief: Successfully pushed President Biden to cancel some $175 billion in student loan debt for roughly 5 million Georgians and Americans.
Child Care: Secured more than $1 billion in new federal investments for childcare.
Hidden Hotel and Concert Fees: Successfully pushed to keep hotels and live event ticketing from charging hidden fees.
In 2025, know I will continue fighting to help Georgians get ahead by fighting to remove medical debt from Georgians’ credit scores; working to cap the high costs of insulin at $35 a month for everyone who needs it; pushing to close Georgia’s health care gap and make affordable health care accessible for more than 640,000 Georgians; fighting to make permanent the expanded Child Tax Credit that sent monthly checks to working class families.
Good Georgia Jobs and Workers
As someone who believes in the dignity of work, I understand that a job is more than a source of income—it can provide a sense of purpose and a pathway to improving Georgians’ lives. That’s why I’ve been proud to not only secure funding to help create new good-paying Georgia jobs, but to make sure that Georgians have the skills and training they need to take these new jobs coming to our state.
Aviation Jobs: Authorized to double the federal funding available to train pilots, aviation mechanics, and aviation manufacturers, helping alleviate the national pilot shortage and creating good-paying jobs in the aviation industry.
Advanced Manufacturing Jobs: Secured $175 million in federal funding for semiconductor company Absolics in Covington to create over 200 new jobs—and fought to make sure Georgia manufacturers weren’t left out of new federal grant money. Plus, worked to make federal investments available to OFS Fitel in Norcross, creating over 100 new local jobs.
Looking ahead to 2025, I will keep pushing to:
Pathways to Prosperity Act: Pass my bipartisan Pathways to Prosperity Act that will create public-private partnerships to allow Georgians to work at Georgia companies while they earn a technical degree.
Workforce Development: Strengthen federal workforce development programs and direct those investments to boost workforce training, recruitment and retention efforts across industries in every corner of the state.
With parents from Screven County and Ware County, my roots run deep in rural Georgia’s soil. That’s why I’ve worked over the course of 2024 to deliver for rural Georgians.
Relief for Farmers: Secured tens of millions in relief for Georgia’s farmers to help keep their heads above water, as well as additional funds to farmers impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Hurricane Helene Recovery: Held community clinics to provide in-person support to Georgians navigating the federal disaster assistance process and secured over $250 million in federal dollars for Georgians with millions more on the way
Rural Broadband: Secured $1.3 billion in federal dollars to expand broadband and close the digital divide across Georgia, especially in rural areas.
Making Washington Work for you
From day one, I’ve directed my staff to make your issues with federal agencies a top priority, from helping with Medicare claims, to getting you a passport on time, to helping navigate the complexities of Veteran Affairs or the Social Security Administration—and everything in between. And in 2024, Team Warnock did just that.
In 2025 my commitment to delivering for Georgians in every corner of the state will not waver. For more information on how my office can help you, click on my website at www.warnock.senate.gov or call my office at 202-224-3643.
I still pinch myself when I think about how lucky I am to represent the people of Georgia in the U.S. Senate. Please know that every day I’m working to center the people in the policies coming out of Washington, as we work to create a beloved community where all of God’s children have the support and resources they need to thrive, no matter who they are or where they come from.
I still believe Dr. Martin Luther King was right when he said, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny; whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.” Know that in 2025 and beyond, I will keep fighting to deliver for you and your family, and all Georgians in every corner of our state.
May peace be with you through the remainder of the holiday season, and here’s wishing you and your families a happy and healthy New Year!
