South Effingham is in the driver’s seat to capture its fifth consecutive subregion softball championship.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 4-0 in Region 3-AAA (A) with a 5-0 win at Richmond Hill on Tuesday.
Sally Faircloth was dominant in the circle, allowing only one hit and striking out seven Lady Wildcat batters. She pitched a complete game for the win.
“She was great as she has been all year,” SEHS coach Donnie Ussery said. “Her, Allison (Kirkland) and Casey (Johnson) have really carried us this season because we haven’t swung the bats well lately. I’m excited to see the pitching staff going.”
Richmond Hill’s Jenna Reddick also was a force in the circle, striking out six and allowing only four hits.
However, five Richmond Hill errors doomed Reddick and the Lady Wildcats to a loss.
Reddick had a shutout going until South Effingham took advantage of some costly errors in the sixth inning to score five runs.
South Effingham resumes subregion play today at Paulson Softball Complex in Savannah against St. Vincent’s at 4:30 p.m.
The Lady Mustangs have a big challenge ahead of them on Friday when they travel to Georgia Tech to play Class AAAA power Greenbrier.
