Senior shortstop Alexis Mercer was named Armstrong State University’s female student-athlete of the year.
Mercer, a South Effingham High School graduate, also has been named to the all-Peach Belt Conference first team each of the last three seasons. Mercer also was named the softball MVP and she also has the highest grade point average on the softball team.
Mercer is majoring in nursing. She was presented her award by ASU president Dr. Linda Bleicken.
Mercer was named the Peach Belt Conference player of the year for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
She is the all-time leader in home runs in Peach Belt softball history and set a conference record in home runs for a season last year with 24. She also ranks among the top 10 in Division II history for career home runs.
