Savannah Christian opened its region football schedule with a win Friday night.
The Red Raiders defeated McIntosh County Academy 10-0 at Garden City Stadium to open the Region 2-AA season.
The win improves Savannah Christian to 4-0. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers fall to 3-1.
The defense, led by Effingham residents Brandon Sumner and Jordan Hill, stuffed MCA all night, limiting the Bucs to 54 total yards, including minus 1-yard rushing.
Tyler Sumner of Rincon caught two passes from Russell DeMasi for 37 yards in the win.
Chris Barnwell scored from 17 yards out and Jamie Lindley boomed a 47-yard field goal in the second quarter to put the Raiders on the board.
The schedule gets a lot tougher on Friday when Savannah Christian hosts three-time defending state champion Charlton County, which is ranked No. 2 in the AJC poll.
