ACWORTH -- South Effingham's magical softball season was interrupted by a brief offensive disappearing act over the weekend in a tournament at Allatoona High School..
The Mustangs, who outscored their opponents 64-4 while winning their first nine games, dropped three of four contests, including a couple of shutouts. They were outscored 16-9 in games against North Paulding, Rockmart, Etowah and Harrison.
On Friday, South Effingham lost 3-0 and 8-2 to North Paulding and Rockmart, respectively. Kastin Belogorska excelled in the circle in both games, notching 15 strikeouts with only two walks, but she got limited offensive support.
Allie Ergle led the Mustangs with two hits against North Paulding and Hailey Pinette drove in both South Effingham runs against Rockmart with a home run. Emily Laverenz added two hits against Rockmart.
On Saturday, Etowah nipped South Effingham 2-0, scratching for both of its runs in the final inning. It managed the rally despite getting outhit 4-3. Alex Brown had two of South Effingham's base knocks.
The Mustangs got back on track against Harrison as Brown collected three hits and an RBI in their 7-3 win. Ergle, Cheyenne Miller and Pinette each added one hit and two RBI. Pinette's hit was another homer.
