Third baseman Emily Laverenz staked South Effingham to a first-inning lead and pitcher Kastin Belogorska made it stand up as the Lady Mustangs dumped Ware County 2-1 in a Region 2-AAAAA softball game Tuesday.
Laverenz delivered three hits of her team's eight hits, including one that drove in both first-inining runs. Alexa Johanson added two hits for the Lady Mustangs (11-3, 3-0).
Belogorska kept the Lady Gators (7-5, 1-2) in check except for a fifth-inning home run by Dyonne McClain. She logged six strikeouts without issuing a walk.
The Lady Mustangs are set to play at Richmond Hill Wednesday at 6 p.m.
South Effingham won the junior varsity game 7-3.
