BLUFFTON, S.C. — University of South Carolina Beaufort senior Shelby Zipperer is the week’s Sun Conference Softball player of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Zipperer is the first Sand Shark player to earn the award in 2015. It’s the second player of the week award of Zipperer’s career. She also earned the honor as a freshman in 2012.
A senior outfielder and former South Effingham High School standout, Zipperer had a huge day at the plate Friday at Brewton-Parker, going 5-for-8 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBIs in a doubleheader sweep.
The Sand Sharks (6-0) have won all six of their games via the eight-run mercy rule with none going the full seven innings.
USCB is at Coastal Georgia before traveling to play in the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic in Columbus and the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala.
